(* The title is borrowed from Odysseas Elytis’ book “The Garden with Illusions”)
“Τυχαία Τάχα” (“ By chance supposedly”) is my final show in the School of Fine Arts (UOI).
A diversion of my first draft, a risk I took leaving the “mistake” of the watercolor that ran on the paper, revealed interest and provocative results. I created a series of mixed media paintings trying to repeat the -not completely- controlled flow of color on the paper or the glass.
The “error” revealed to me a topic that concerned me. I was attracted to it as if there had always been a relationship between my inner world and my will that created these works.
I recalled memories from my childhood when the rain and humidity on the windows fascinated me and challenged me to intervene in their random but symmetrical shapes, by stirring the drops, stopping, or changing their flow. This process made me want to discover their destination and observe the clouds and all this magic of the mysterious cycle: cloud-rain-drop- flow. Sometimes I dared to play with the colors on the glass windows stirring the watercolors with my hands. All of these pictures seemed to had been left “Pending” to be worked, to be developed and this feeling spontaneously became the basis of my work.
The installation display of my work is based upon the internal “route” that I experienced during the period I worked on these projects, and intended to transfer this personal look to the visitor as well. The artworks displayed at the entrance – reception symbolize the first experiments of my childhood, but at the same time is the entrance from the outside into the inner world of the senses. It is an obstacle you have to cross so as to get in or out. However, this obstacle is transparent, allowing you to be in direct contact with the whole interior.
